Rachel’s Graduation Day

“This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. ”

Nineteen years ago we were awaiting the arrival of Rachel Nicole Mast.  We had known for five months that she would be born with Down syndrome. I knew very little about Down syndrome.

Nineteen years ago

  • I wondered if she would ever be able to read.
    • She has won several reading awards and read many of the same books as her friends.
  • I wondered if she would have friends.
    • She had over 250 people come celebrate her at her graduation party.
  • I started praying that my parents would live to see her graduate.
    • My parents, her MawMaw and Popie, are here and will be among the four of us who get to watch her graduate in person because the rain has pushed our outdoor graduation indoor.  Thank you Lord for allowing them to be here to celebrate this joyous time with us.

Today at 2:00 PM she will walk across a stage with her trademark beautiful smile and her joy-filled heart, and she will receive a diploma just like all her friends.

“This is the day the Lord has made and I am rejoicing.”

PS – Sally and Marisol won’t be at graduation, but they had on their dancing shoes and watched the entire graduation party!
